Grants

Grants are given annually to local arts organizations to promote and assist with their artistic endeavors and activities. Grant amounts are determined by need, how they will be used and available funding.

In fall of 2022, the arts council was able to provide grants to the following organizations:

  • Common Ground Art Therapy Program – Pontiac & RO
  • Royal Oak Concert Band
  • Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra
  • South Oakland Art Association
  • Stagecrafters Theatre Group
  • Waterworks Theatre – Shakespeare in the Park

Common Ground Art Therapy Program
Our donations to the Common Ground Art Therapy program goes toward the purchase of art supplies provided to clients when they are discharged from the Common Ground program. Clients are able to continue “making art” after they return home or during their next place of treatment (or, sadly, to a shelter if they were homeless). These clients often comment that participating in art therapy groups is uplifting and relaxing and that it creates connections with others.

In addition to the Art Therapy program in Pontiac, grant funds are also used for an art therapy program at The Sanctuary, a runaway and homeless youth shelter on Washington Avenue in Royal Oak.
